Bumble & Tweet

Yay to yet another one of my favourite artists for her upcoming vinyl production piece! It was quite a sudden exciting news, really, as there wasn't any prior rumours about it. So it was Vinyl Pulse that announced Julie West upcoming Bumble & Tweet with the expected release in August.

The article mentioned about how Julie played a vital role of playing around back and forth how the whole sculpt works. In the process integrating the design, the sculpt and the physical production process together. Hence I reckon they will be well-rounded final pieces once done.

Apparently some bits will be magnetic. Cheers for bringing the "play" aspect back to vinyl toys.

follow up: Julie West Custom Mellow

The custom Mellow surprisingly appeared at my doorstep early today. Big cheers to Julie for the quick delivery. It was a pleasant start to the day.

It's beautifully done. The paintjob is stunningly simple and clean yet the idea behind the design is intricately hidden. When I first saw images attached to the email Julie sent, I thought there were merely graphics on the body.

Things that I did not notice, slowly revealed themselves. The jello at the center is probably where the stomach is, sadly eaten. The two elements on the right and left, would you believe that I did not notice that they were, in fact the arms and hands with a wooden spoon and fork in each.

The jello is a bonus. Love the overall colours used. Notice the fine lines and dots, cute freckles and the eyes were amazingly done. It is a finished piece worthy of unlimited praises.

Julie West Custom Mellow

Oh yes, just received a sweet email from the lovely Julie West that my commissioned Mellow is done.

I personally requested the green and I particularly love the contrasts between the colours that Julie applied. Very rich 'chocolatey' colours, I must say.

During our meetup at the 'Shelf Life' show at Bodhi Gallery, London back in November, she insisted to have a go at the jello that comes with the Mellow (it rhymes). Though she must have had a tough time getting paints to stick to its surface.

I left the design all up to Julie. Sometimes, you just gotta place all your trust in the artist. ;) She's a wonderful artist to work with.
