Dan May Custom Mellow

I was at the post office yesterday to pick up a highly anticipated package from the States. The commission has been going on for a while and it is worth all the wait. An awesome journey if I may add to that.

So here it is, the package (some yet to be photographed):

Dan May went as far as to made a once-off print of my favourite painting of his, which unfortunately the current owner has no plan of letting go.

Dan May has an upcoming solo show entitled "Slow Collision" at
Copro Nason, opening 7th February 2009. Check out his flickr page for more.

Kickstart to the new year: Kelly Vivanco Custom Mellow

I did not realize I have been away from blogging for about two months. Just hard to keep up when you get further away from where all the arts and sources are. Since returning home to this part of the world, I have been pre-occupied with, say, more important matters.

Another big year for me this year, I can already smell the things coming at me. Expect lots of changes, good changes I hope.

As for customs, I am waiting on the completion of two remaining Mellows by artists yet to be revealed. For now, allow me to humbly show you my latest piece by the great Kelly Vivanco.

I got a big surprise for my last commission, that'll come in due time. Also planned a photography session for these customs, got some people I met through my old mates that are interested in taking these art pieces.

Happy New Year people.

almost there - another custom Mellow

Here's a teaser of what's forth-coming in my line of custom Mellows. This is from the fantastic works of Kelly Vivanco. Brilliant! Progress shots can be seen via. Kelly's flickr.

Few MadL customs

Since the release of the 10" Mad'L, the sculpt has gotten even more popular. Recently, we see Kathie Olivas doing this piece up for her upcoming show "Uninvited Guest" with MyPlasticHeart. This piece is based on one of her piece from the Scavengers Series 1, Masao.

And Jeremiah Ketner who previously did up the custom Mellow for me (here) has taken on a commission for a set of 10" and 5" Mad'L which he executed marvelously.

Kelly Vivanco's Miao

Finally got a little more settled and finding time to see what I've missed over the past two weeks. Does prove to you how quickly and vast information on the internet travels. Hong Kong was awesome and I haven't got my notebook with me to get the photos downloaded. The only decent vinyl scene I came across was MINDStyle's exhibition of Buff Monster's works at Delay No More, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Manage to get upclose to a 4 foot KAWS Companion.

Heaps of things I missed out but nothing absolutely major. Things that I am still in the loop are like Scavengers Series 2 and couple of upcoming shows. I am actually glad I did not spend any money at all on toys in HK. Maybe a couple of pooh bears that make excellent gifts for my female companions.

Quite a few lovely surprises, mainly excellent custom vinyls by my beloved artists. One of them, Kelly Vivanco, created this beautiful custom Miao for an upcoming show at Subtext on the 14th November.

Dan May Custom Mellow 'Celestial Marmalade"

I have been patiently waiting for these shots of my newest commissioned custom Mellow from Dan May and I can now finally post them up to share.

Thanks Dan. It is an amazing piece. I shall write a little more the next time to accompany my amateur shots of it.

On my way to Hong Kong for a brief stop, can't seem to find time to blog. White geisha's with me.

Doktor A upcoming show pieces

Custom 9" BUD

It is no wonder that Doktor A had seized accepting commission works when he is taking a massive leap this year on show pieces and of course, on his Mechtorians. He recently posted an update with sneak peaks on upcoming customs for various shows for October.

Rebel Pilots

Phu! has just announced a small limited production of his upcoming Rebel Pilots, made available in only a run of 12 and in four colours.

Made of resin and at a height of 2" with three points of articulation, this should make a good mini companion. I imagine it fitting nicely in your shirt pocket and go on outdoor adventures with your camera. Check out Phu! blogspot for some of his recent creations.

Speaking of which, my white Tokyoplastic Geisha will be making her way to new destinations at the end of the month.

Custom Sharkys at ToyQube

The previously mentioned custom Sharky show at ToyQube (here) now has put up the available pieces online for grabs. Surprisingly, I thought some were priced affordably.

Click here to view full page of custom sharkys.
I think some are missing though.

Jeremiah Ketner custom 10" Teddy Trooper for sale

I am lending a helping hand to a fellow boardie and fellow fan for Jeremiah Ketner's works to sell this brilliant piece of custom work.

It is one of Jeremiah's earlier works and style. This piece was featured at Rotofugi's "Teddy Troops Invasion" custom show back in 2006.

Hit up Pinkus if you would like to own this beautiful piece via the Kidrobot forum here.

Doktor A's custom Sharky

ToyQube's custom show in conjunction with its 4th Anniversary celebration will feature Keith Poon's Sharky figure on 15th August. I am not a fan of this piece of sculpt but with its list of 50 or so artists stepping up to the do a custom Sharky, it is hard to resist blogging about it. Particularly so, after I came across Doktor A's piece for this show.

Even one of my favourite artist, Jeremiah Ketner has submitted his entry. Quite a few have been revealed, just browse about a bit and you will find them.

Teddy Trooper design contest 2008

Just came across this 3" Teddy Trooper contest via. a flickr contact, Tanki and his custom entry (here). I can't seem to find much information, the winner of the contest will get his/her piece produced.

Good chance to look at some new emerging artists too.

Click here to view all entries.

Beasts of Burden show pictures

VinylPulse posted up images of the custom pieces from the show. They all look even better in person, particularly Kelly Vivanco and Yoskay Yamamoto's pieces.

some other Mellow customs

I recently spoke to DX_Psycho from the Kidrobot forum about some custom Mellows he previously commissioned. It was splendid to exchange images of each other's custom commission pieces and views. Here are some of his lovely acquisitions :

Beasts of Burden show

Subtext and Cardboard Spaceship will host a massive custom vinyl show using the new platform toy YOKA, released by adFunture on July 25th and 26th. Not that I am a big fan of this platform but the artist lineup for this show is extraordinary, particularly when it involves big name artists whom were not known for customizing or applying their artworks onto vinyl platforms.

Big name artists obviously means high end value customs. I am already liking quite a few. In fact, I will show you ones that I absolutely fancy.

your very own hot air balloon

APina is widely known for his classic hot air labbit customs. Here he has done it again and offering a 5" piece up for grabs for $150. Hit him up here if you are interested.

One of these days, I will need to pick up a 10 incher from him.

Kustom Keifer Custom Teddy Trooper

I recently and almost suddenly purchased my second Teddy Trooper custom piece. To be honest, this sculpt has to come second after the Mellow in terms of preference. The purchase was a little sudden and I purchased it for a nostalgic reason.

I recall seeing this piece from some place and that was sometime two years ago. When I saw the artist himself posted this for sale on the board, I was absolutely thrilled and jumped immediately on it.

I present you, Kustom Keifer's "Urko"

Brent Nolasco's solo

I suppose everyone should have checked out Brent Nolasco's solo show entitled "Broken Hearts and Stolen Souls at MyPlasticHeart by now. Personally, I do not yet know how to appreciate his paintings (my bad) but I am definitely awed by his ability to produce wonderful inspiring customs.

The variety of pieces, particularly of very different forms and sizes make it an even more interesting presentation. For obvious reasons, I was thrilled to see a mellow being part of his line up of custom pieces. Not really my cup of tea but brilliant nontheless.

Here are two of the many amazing pieces:

Angry Woebots Custom Mellow

Here is the fourth addition to my custom Mellows collection. An Angry Woebots angry panda to go with the rest. The gold brushes and black splatters make a good addition to the usual style. It's an ever evolving prominent style of his. I am glad to have a piece for this batch's style. If my imagination goes wild, I'd say the black & white makes it resembles a penguin for a moment.

I shall take a couple more shots and add them to this post later.

Angry Woebots custom munnys

Aaron aka Angry Woebots has just dropped just three pieces of custom munnys. As I understand, he will not be taking commission customs anymore / at least for a while. There is still a piece of giant munny left if you're quick with your finger.

My Mellow should be on its way. *excited
