Succumbed to Scavengers exclusive

I said I would quit the addiction of picking up the exclusives, but I could not resist the price tag of $15 for Tenacious Toy's exclusive series 1 Scavenger, "Silver Winston".

Scavengers: Exclusive Beaumont

It's about time we move onwards to another exclusive, after the many previous exclusives of the Aubrie sculpt from Kathie Olivas' Scavengers Series 1. Without much notice, this piece will be released by MINDStyle Hong Kong, located at Delay No More today.

Gotta convince myself to not turn into a completist, but since I have missed out on quite a few, losing out on one won't hurt much.

My series 2 Scavengers

- minus the chase here

Got my first case. As per usual, awesome quality. I have yet to find the right spot and shelf to display these.

Bless the Scavengers.

Scavengers Series 2

So all over the designer vinyl scene is news on the eagerly anticipated Scavengers Series 2 with confirmed information on the release date being today (my time) Friday, 24th October. Vinylpulse has just posted a fantastic photo of the complete set. Can't wait to get my hands on them, I have ordered 'a few'. ;)

Few MadL customs

Since the release of the 10" Mad'L, the sculpt has gotten even more popular. Recently, we see Kathie Olivas doing this piece up for her upcoming show "Uninvited Guest" with MyPlasticHeart. This piece is based on one of her piece from the Scavengers Series 1, Masao.

And Jeremiah Ketner who previously did up the custom Mellow for me (here) has taken on a commission for a set of 10" and 5" Mad'L which he executed marvelously.

Kathie Olivas' new paintings

Kathie Olivas will have a solo show entitled "Uninvited Guests" with MyPlasticHeart coming 17th November. But the pieces I came across at her flickr do not seem to be for this show as this show features smaller paintings.

Onwards to the pieces that capture my attention:

"Rivals" 30" x 40"

"Uncertain" 18" x 24"

The new pieces seem to have a darker tone and the characters blend into their background marvelously, particular the above piece "Uncertain". Love the green.

Anticipating Scavengers Series 2

Not that I have strayed away from blogging. Partly busy with settling in and there isn't many things that caught my eyes. And been saving up too, lookey lookey.

I am really looking forward to Kathie Olivas's Scavengers Series 2, due to be released in October. Stock photos released compared to those I previously blogged here, these are crystal clear shots of each pieces.

Still undecided which I like best. Probably the ones with the squid legs.

MPH Aubrie exclusive

The next in line Scavengers from Series 1 exclusive is a light blue Aubrie, which will be released by MyPlasticHeart. Date unknown but I am keeping my fingers crossed for an online release.

Platinum Aubrie

Two awesome boardies hooked me up with my first Scavengers exclusives. I think it looks impressive in my hand and only then I realize this might just look better than the others released so far. That's just an innitial thought, not that I will be able to complete all the exclusives, no.

I think it's the 'nature' of these pieces that they look just amazing, no matter the colours.

Scavengers Exclusives

So far, I have seen four figures of the Scavengers that are made exclusive, with the latest one whose image was released only yesterday or so.

Purple Aubrie, will be released at Dragon Con, Atlanta.

Silver Aubrie released just yesterday in the Phillipines

SDCC Exclusives, Masao & Nigel

At the moment, dig the white Nigel the most. These in fact are of smaller run than the chase Hazel in Series 1 and one can assume these should worth more, for the time being. Once all the exclusives got released, which is probably like 13 of them, prices should not be as ridiculous as they stand now in the secondary market. Very unfortunate that fans like us will have to hope these will be sold online, which is usually the contrary.

Just to recapture the rest of the store exclusives in the coming:

Cardboard Spaceship (Santa Cruz)
De La Barracuda Shop (Hollywood)
Dragon Con (Atlanta)
FX Show (Orlando)
myplasticheart (New York)
Rivet Gallery (Ohio)
Rotofugui (Chicago)
3D Retro (Online)
1045 Showroom (Online)
Secret Fresh (Manila)
Sugar Vinyl (Taiwan)
Toy Tokyo (New York)
VTN (Pasadena)

Heaps... and there's Series 2 in the making. I reckon I shall stick to collecting the series(s).

Blank Scavengers

Red Dexter, White Aubrie, Black Masao

I recently purchased three of the blank Scavengers that were released at the SDCC. I don't usually purchase blanks unless they are for a custom commission, but these guys look fantastic in photo shoots.

These are of unlimited run so if you would like one, go hit your local stores.

"The Shining" inspired Kathie Olivas piece

This is an incredible piece by Kathie Olivas for the upcoming Gallery 1988 show, "Crazy 4 Cult", opening 22nd of August.

I can never get enough of her works, there is this sense of attachment to her works that never bores me.

As blogged by G1988 here.

10" Hazel

I woke up this morning discovering a nice update on Kathie Olivas's flickr of a 10" version of the Two Faced Hazel. It looks absolutely fantastic!

So much to look forward to. Series 2, Brandt Peters' Serv-O-Matic mini figures (posted up at VinylPulse), and now this.

how many Benny & Redbirds out there?

I keep seeing new colourways of Kathie Olivas' Benny & Redbird. From my guess, I think there are about 7? And of course, there were quite a few custom versions of both Benny & Redbird, separately and together as a set.

Here we see the blank version and an exclusive silver edition.

Kathie Olivas Scavengers Series 2

So soon we have news about Scavengers Series 2. From the looks of it, they look absolutely amazing, particularly the piece with the vine legs. I do hope they won't release them too soon, haven't fully recovered ($) from Series 1.

Nothing but fine quality on these.

On a side note, Brandt Peters unleased his very own first series of mini figures.

SDCC Exclusive Scavengers

Another fantastic news is that we will be seeing two new exclusive Scavengers. Bad news is, they are only available at SDCC. Well, I can only hope that somebody will be sweet and kind enough to pick one of each for me.

Masao & Nigel

There is Masao which will be available at ToyTokyo's booth on Friday 25th and Nigel at MINDstyle's booth on Saturday 26th. Do refer to VinylPulse for exact time.

my Scavengers

she only came about on my second last blind box

Just pure happiness. Haven't had time yet to really look into them. I doubt I will find much flaws but it is still worth commenting, in due time.

guess who got the first case of Scavenger minis?

It's obviously the creator herself. Kathie Olivas showed us her case of Scavengers where she scored the chase, 2-faced Hazel. I have got my case sorted out, so I just have to sit back and wait for them to be released on the 20th or thereafter.

The last time I purchased a case was Series 6 Bearbricks. I was lucky to score the ultimate chase, Futura. I rarely get lucky, so let's hope I get a complete set just from this case.

Here are the shots posted by Kathie:
