follow up: Mar Hernández Custom Teddy Trooper

"Momo"

With the piece in my hand, there's this complete sense of satisfaction that is unexplainable. I can keep staring at it and still my imaginations for it will keep running wild.

The piece is brilliantly done. The process I went through for the past four months have been an absolutely enjoyable one. The process made the final product even more satisfying and significantly cherished.

Received an email informing that my (another) commissioned custom piece is done. There are still a couple of things to settle beforehand.

Andy Kehoe artworks

Having not been around and well-informed of the art scene for long enough, I first came across Andy Kehoe's works through a fellow collector, lordlupus and getting all awed with the few original paintings he has managed to acquire.

Since then, I have slowly grow to like Andy's works. I love how the colours work well with his abstracts. Moreover, I love more how affordable his prints are. It is always a good thing to follow an uprising artist rather than an already well-established one, when it comes to affordability.

I realized that at the end of the day, I must say that I would very much prefer hand-painted drawings as compared to drawings that are 'digitalized' (in which, I started off very much liking SHAG's works way earlier on). Personally, I feel there is more ample space for your imagination to go wild and free when looking at original hand-painted drawings/paintings.

I became even more indulged when sleepboy featured Andy Kehoe on his blog, plus that he acquired an original piece entitled 'Humanity Bleeds' which I absolutely love.

Currently contemplating about purchasing two prints, most likely 'Humanity Bleeds' and 'New Beginnings' which was just released couple of days back. Definitely not the ones that feature death, not my kind of thing.

Kaskade

Not as big a fan for house music as I once used to some while back. Kaskade, stage name for Ryan Raddon, a DJ/producer/remixer/artist who was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1972, raised in Salt Lake City, Utah as a teen, and now calls San Francisco, California home.

His dance/club/house/electronic music albums have always been well-received, particularly his 2004 released album, In The Moment that saw Kaskade's first top 10 single with "Steppin' Out".

I personally love his 2006 album, The Calm. It is a much chilled album with less drum-driven, meaning less 'house'.

Tracklist:

01. Wink of an Eye
02. Heart Attack
03. McCammon
04. Right Dream
05. Soft Upon the Lips
06. Remembering Rufus
07. Stay This
08. Nobody Else
09. Words and Melody
10. Surrender

My favourite tune from the album is definitely "Right Dream", which not surprisingly is one of the least popular among his usual house fans.

Markie_Darkie customs

One artist that caught my attention of late is a fellow forumer going by the artist name Markie_Darkie. I recall clearly his first ever custom that caught my eye was a munny done quite a long while ago and almost instantly he is making a big name for himself with his own awesome unique custom style; as how I would describe it as - psychedelic.

I must boast that I have now created a folder specially for images of his custom pieces, well that is the least I can do for now.

Absolutely impressed and indulged into each piece's artwork.

Kathie Olivas "Bittersweet" show

Kathie Olivas has an upcoming solo show at Gallery 1988 San Francisco from 29th February - 22nd March featuring paintings, sculptures, custom vinyl figures and prints.

A beautiful line of custom pieces, of which most are original sculpts and of relatively large sizes are shown on the preview list. The paintings are simply amazing but shall mainly focus on checking out her custom pieces; the part of her works that I particular adore and absolutely mesmerized with.

Kathie Olivas & Brandt Peters, Colin Christian & Sas Christian show in the UK

News has it that Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Colin Christian & Sas Christian will be making their way to the UK for two events, namely the ATP Music festival outside of London from May 9th - 11th and May 17th at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester.

Shall try to make it to the RGG. Expect lots of paintings, drawings, prints, & vinyls!

And good to see big name artists mass-producing toys of their own and now Kathie Olivas with her Scavengers Mini Figures in blind boxes above. Now everyone can own a KO piece.

Also noticed that Nicoletta Ceccoli is doing a show at RGG as well in December.

vespa + vintage helmet = coolness

the mp6 and mp5 Paperino (1945)

Always a big fan of the Vespa. Extremely excited when I got to see that many in my trips to Europe. Don't own a motorcycle license YET, but I do intend to later on.

"The Vespa (which means “wasp” in Italian) has evolved from a single model motor scooter manufactured in 1946 by Piaggio & Co. S.p.A. of Pontedera, Italy -- to a full line of scooters and one of seven companies today owned by Piaggio -- now Europe's largest manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles and the world's fourth largest motorcycle manufacturer by unit sales.

No other product in history has taken humiliation, destruction and poverty and made them the stuff of dreams. Despite 20,000 mechanical changes, 120 different models and total sales of more than 16 million, it is still recognisable the same machine as the one that made its debut in April 1946.

Inside, though, everything has changed: the old two-stroke engine, as responsive and peppy as it was noisy and polluting, has given way to a clean, quiet four-stroke; the transmission is automatic. The can't tamper with the look too much - they can only tease and titivate it, adding leather seats, fiddling with the shape of the handlebars... "

Mar Hernández Custom Teddy Trooper

I am finally 'allowed' to disclose the completed custom Teddy Trooper by dear Malota. Always been following the progress of this piece and it was an absolutely fun journey to be able to discuss and give suggestions on how the many ways we could approach this piece. I believe that is the most enjoyable part when it comes to private commissioned pieces or artworks.

As previously mentioned, love the purple! Love the seemingly mere lines. Glad that I suggested to do more to the hat, it turned out incredibly good.

I could have commissioned a Mellow instead, but I am happy to have variations in my custom collection. But who knows, a mellow might come along the way in the not-so-distant future.

More images below

Mar Hernández

Mar Hernández aka Malota is one of my top illustrators/artists out there. I have not posted any entry on her yet mainly because I would like to do so once she is finished with a commission custom piece for me. Credits to sleepboy for introducting Mar's works through his commissioned custom Rolitoboy, done beautifully and elegantly.

"Malota loves music and draws in her moleskine while having coffee with friends. She has a deep obsession about the colors of her pieces, scrupulously working the color scheme until obtaining the tonalities that generate the sensations that she wants to transmit in each work. Another special interest to her is the symmetry present in most of her works, an axial symmetry that makes her characters look more static and blunt, strange and enigmatic. Aspects of geometry, tangram, and origami also hold great interest for Maltoa and are usually found in her work. Many individuals find oriental signs in Mar's work, due to the Japanese and Chinese culture that are such a source of inspiration for the artist. "

Rivet Gallery

I really love the lines, they are so free flow that they do not take up any form but eventually do become something. Another thing to note is that I absolutely adore purple or colours almost equivalent, which quite a number of her works take up of. She does pretty cards too that make excellent gifts.

Alberto Cerriteño illustrations

Alberto Cerriteño is one of the few artists on my watchlist. There are heaps of artists/illustrators/designers out there in the world just waiting to be discovered and I just so happen to come across his works. I particular love his choice of colours, subtle dark tone with an impression of various natural earth.

"... a Mexican illustrator and designer based in Portland, Oregon, who has a distinctive character illustration style that draws on the influences of his native land"

Computer Arts

He recently collaborated on designing an illustration for a music video for Boston-based band Static of The Gods. The video shows distinctively his illustration style.

follow up: Petit Lapin black

At long last, I can quit worrying about my black Petit Lapin of straying afar, lost in transaction. I was absolutely looking forward to see this piece up close. Hence, I was quite the happy puppy when I saw this at my door.

The boxing could have been way better. I do not mind the shoebox but it could at least be wrapped up with brown paper or something. It looks poorly managed, Mr. Clement. My 'shoebox' was totally beaten-up.

Upon opening, one hand I am glad that there was bubble wrap over it and the new packaging is sturdy; on the other I was inevitably dismayed to see faint scratch marks on random spots.

It is a real lovely piece, but one cannot just be pleased when one keeps coming across 'problems' that could have been prevented in the first place.

On the sidenote, the actual piece has good weight to it. Sculpt-wise very well done, smooth flow all around. And look, it stands. You will know what I mean if you do own Mr. Clement's previous Lapins.

I reckon just about anybody would fall in love with it.

Blue Six

I am not usually so much a big fan of house music as I used to many years ago. The only type of music I listen to at this point is pretty much lounge, jazz funk and jazz; low ambience slow paced down tempo music, so to speak.

However, Blue Six is quite an exception. Let the music speaks for itself.

"Blue Six--aka Jay Denes and guests--have built up a formidable reputation for crafting deep, textured and eminently soulful house music. Their consistently seductive productions have built up an almost cultish following among house fans who yearn for something a little deeper than traditional four to the floor club fare."

Sade - By Your Side (Blue Six remix)
This is a real good song, trust me. Ignore the young beautiful lady.

Should you choose to begin your venture, I would recommend the album 'Beautiful Tomorrow'. Though released back in 2002, it remains one of their most successful and best loved album.

"The pitter-patter drum-beats, gentle guitar plucks, smooth bass and gentle propulsion of these tracks makes for a wonderful aura of well-being and optimism"

Tokyoplastic white geisha

There's that sun we rarely see, out shining brightly today. Just had to grab my petite digital camera out and take snapshots. Today, I chose the white geisha, seemingly looking happy with that smirk on her face.

Scott Radke at Thinkspace

"Pins & Needles" at Thinkspace opened and featured works by Scott Radke & Kevin Titzer last friday, 8th February. I almost forgot about it, though I wouldn't be able to afford any, still I would like to see what his largest show to date has to offer.

Preview is available now and I'm loving quite a few pieces, namely; 'Swan #24' and 'Raindrop #4' (shown below).

Loving them though couple of them do spook me. Each individual piece gives me a different impression. That's the fun bit.

Brendan Monroe sculptures

It's incredibly difficult to resist these intricate creatures/sculptures. I absolutely love a few chosen ones. Mainly because I can relate them to what I do at the moment.

"Mycobacterium" dimensions variable, various hardwoods and acrylic

(mounted on wall, but to me they resemble futuristic light-weight balloon structures on the ground)

"Solid, Liquid, Gas" dimensions variable, various hardwoods, acrylic and fishing line

Microbe, cedar and acrylic

(not so much on this one, it slightly creeps me. Probably because I hate multi-legged 'things')

Images via Brendan's website

Rumour has it that there might be new vinyl toys from Brendan. The above are sculptures apparently. Let's just hope there will be concrete news about that something new in the near future.

Angry Woebots - an intro

Martin aka Angry Woebots is making it big this past 12 months, and I meant by real BIG. His artwork revolves around this particular panda, a bold fresh idea and everyone's diggin' it.

Past and upcoming works, uploaded 08/01/08 [source]

This guy deserves all the credits he's getting. I reckon I spotted something in the video, something I am looking forward to.

Sam Flores shower curtain

Miss out on his latest vinyl pieces? Can always settle for this awesome shower curtain for $35 from Upper Playground. Real tempting price, similar to purchasing a T-shirt.

Beautiful accessory for the bathroom.
