Yes. Now we get to see a clearer shot of their faces. I must say the colours come up quite lovely. Soft and pleasant to the eyes. Personally, nothing beats the original white.
News have it preorder starting February 1st. Don't remember how limited they are, but with 10 in a box, there are plenty to go around. Each comes with its very own matching colour zipper pouch (image). It makes a lovely accompanying accessory. Retails for $90.00 for the boxset.
A boxset contains:-
2 pieces of the Classic White
2 pieces of the Baby Blue
3 pieces of the Pastel Pink
3 pieces of the Almond Brown (my preferred)
I quite love the Baby Treeson, but 10 pieces? What am I going to do with them? I reckon these being sold in volume of 10 pieces might put some people off. Unless of course they get a few mates and share them.
Just received news there's this black edition of the Petit Lapin, limited to 100 pieces, meant as an unoffocial promotional item for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Awesome work, Mr. Clement!
Started tuning in to Bossa Nova music nearing three years now. Loving every bit of Bossa Nova tune I find along the way. Mixture of Jazz and Samba and gradually now it's all kinds of things fushioned together.
Of course, how can we forget the pioneers such as João Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto and definitely my favourite, Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Bookmarked this video more than year ago, fellow Bossa Nova enthusiast cum musician, Major Huang performs a classic piece:
A beautiful, relatively new song (not so much of Bossa Nova) with Jobim on piano:
Recently been coming across this piece and gradually became hooked to it. I absolutely ignored this piece when it was released back in 2005. I am sure I came across it but I was not attracted to it back then. Not really into Brendan's art but vinyl-wise, there is just something about this piece's simplicity.
In describing his first Vinyl Figure Brendan Monroe states "The actual SOUR comes from the idea of a fruit or a pod coming alive and creating havoc and trouble."
I am quite certain I started getting hooked to it through these photographs, here and here by a fellow flickr member. He takes very impressive photographs, particular of these little creatures. Beautiful!
I am quite tempted when I recently came across somebody selling it at the forum. Double its original price of $50, shall I? Hit me up if anyone's got hookup.
Amy painted three paintings for her upcoming show at Gallery 1988 San Francisco on the 1st of February. I'm a big fan of hers. I love a couple of other artists too with similar style (Audrey Kawasaki, Stella Im Hultberg) but oh well, it's always better to stick to one you personally like best. Helps heaps with your wallet.
I have been following her works since the release of her print, "Hello Sea Pony", which I passed on. Punching myself now for not purchasing that piece. I thought it is one of her best earlier ones. Since then, she has progressively matured and her arts have gotten 'deeper', if I may say so.
I am personally very attracted to her themes. I love the names, I think it is one of those small little things that tickles the heart. At the moment, "To You From My View" is my current favourite. Somehow I see myself in it. Glad to be able to follow closely with her prints released so far. I reckon I would cherish these more than the toys.
The custom Mellow surprisingly appeared at my doorstep early today. Big cheers to Julie for the quick delivery. It was a pleasant start to the day.
It's beautifully done. The paintjob is stunningly simple and clean yet the idea behind the design is intricately hidden. When I first saw images attached to the email Julie sent, I thought there were merely graphics on the body.
Things that I did not notice, slowly revealed themselves. The jello at the center is probably where the stomach is, sadly eaten. The two elements on the right and left, would you believe that I did not notice that they were, in fact the arms and hands with a wooden spoon and fork in each.
The jello is a bonus. Love the overall colours used. Notice the fine lines and dots, cute freckles and the eyes were amazingly done. It is a finished piece worthy of unlimited praises.
Recently getting all absorbed into Jason Jacenko's works. I must admit that I am a little slow on discovering his works, since he has been around in the art scene for a while. It is only the past year that I kept coming across his works (art and custom toys) in the forums and couple of art shows.
One can observe and relate his works to tattoos. As a matter of fact, Jason started off as a tattooist in the 90s. It's amazing to see so much in common between the two 'mediums' (canvas/custom toys vs skin) that he is able to come up with. Personally, the more I look at his works, the more I can imagine they definitely look better ending up on somebody's back or arm.
Very surreal, and that's what I like about it. I still think he has something that stands out from the works of other artists out there. I can relate his works to those of Craola Simkins, Mark Ryden, Chet Zar (those few whom he draws inspirations from) However, I still get drawn more to his works. I suppose by now, I have already established a noticable trend in the kind of arts I like. Subjective, yes.
Couple of us were talking about how ugly this upcoming bearbrick piece is. Personally, I don't think it's that ugly, but I still wouldn't purchase it. They subsequently mock around with their own designs onto the face, which was mainly the bit that they dislike.
My version with Brother Fatt (Mr. Chow Yun Fatt). I thought it looks good, if I do say so myself. Enjoyed watching his movies from the 80's and 90's. Really should check out 'Hard Boil', superb actions.
Oh yes, just received a sweet email from the lovely Julie West that my commissioned Mellow is done.
I personally requested the green and I particularly love the contrasts between the colours that Julie applied. Very rich 'chocolatey' colours, I must say.
During our meetup at the 'Shelf Life' show at Bodhi Gallery, London back in November, she insisted to have a go at the jello that comes with the Mellow (it rhymes). Though she must have had a tough time getting paints to stick to its surface.
I left the design all up to Julie. Sometimes, you just gotta place all your trust in the artist. ;) She's a wonderful artist to work with.
I cannot help but to put this up. I am absolutely impressed with this piece done by agg, from the Kidrobot forum, sometime ago for the Sadly Beautiful Show (December 8th - 22nd, 2007) at Black Maria Gallery. There were shown and sold at this flickr page.
This piece was sold for an awesome price of only $175. The idea is fresh and impressive. I am totally drawn to it.
Though I did not grow up watching this character, I remember it quite clearly seeing it once from somewhere and it made an impact, can't remember what it was sadly. It must have been a cartoon of some sort.
Jeremiah Ketner is really coming into the new year with a bang! Heaps of customs and original sculpts, and it is only the first month of the year.
Another attempt on a Luke Chueh's Possessed piece. I thought the Possessed is one of the tougher sculpts to custom. Mainly because, as first commented and advised by pinkus prior to me commissioning the custom Mellow from Jeremiah, like the Treedweller, is so much of a signature piece, it becomes less versatile for the artist to attempt something bolder. Yes, innitially I wanted him to work on a Treedweller.
However, Jeremiah pulled it off by creating quite a 'signature' of his own version of Possessed here. Rather than the usual Possessed figure, I personally see something else right now, which I find hard to put it in words unfortunately.
Big'it up for Jeremiah! 2008 looks like it's going to be one heck of a year for him.
You and I clearly are aware who commissioned this piece. Ahem...
The band was formed in 1997 by singer Kumi and guitarist Naoki Sato. In Japan they are often called Delico for short.
Stylistically, Love Psychedelico is highly reminiscent of the British Invasion of the late 60s, both members having cited The Beatles and Led Zeppelin as influences, though the influence of American folk and blues are also present (Kumi having claimed Janis Joplin and Sheryl Crow, and Sato Bob Dylan, as influences). To pay tribute to their influences, Love Psychedelico sometimes borrow song titles from the bands that influence them.
Kumi's lyrics are a mix of English and Japanese, a phenomenon common to popular Japanese music, but uncommon in that significant amounts of the English lyrics are comprehensible and well-crafted, rather than simply employing a few catch phrases as so many J-pop idols tend to do. Kumi often attributes her English language proficiency to her early childhood in San Francisco.
I still cannot seem to get my glances off Be@rbricks, particularly the 400%s. Fortunately, I have passed on pretty much 98.55% of the releases the past two years. Something I am quite pleased about.
But, NOT THIS ONE! [300 pieces]. I'm a big fan of FPM. Good music.
aka Fantastic Plastic Machine, in a 1998 publicity photo.
He is considered to be part of the Shibuya-kei movement, drawing heavily from bossa nova, lounge music, house music, and '60s movie soundtracks, but he also incorporates many other types of music.
Tanaka's song "Electric Lady Land" has been featured on the movie soundtrack of The Girl Next Door. He has also been featured on some of DJ Stephane Pompougnac's Hôtel Costes CD series. His song "Bachelor Pad (f.p.m. edit)" was featured on the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack. A short edit of his song "Beautiful Days" is featured on the Japanese music game beatmania IIDX 6th style. As well, "Theme of Luxury", "S'Il Vous Plait", "There Must Be an Angel" and "Warm Up Music" are heard in the British sitcom Spaced. In 2003, his "Different Colors" was featured in a Louis Vuitton commercial created by superflat artist Takashi Murakami. The commercial featured a panda that eats a girl and her cell phone; the three are then transported into an ethereal Louis Vuitton world. This commercial played in Louis Vuitton stores in Japan.
An ad campaign for LOUIS VUITTON by Mamoru Hosoda. an updated alice in wonderland, in which a girl, searching for her lost cell phone, floats in a dizzying world of the company's logos. While waiting to meet her friends outside of a Louis Vuitton store, Aya's cell phone is eaten by the LV Panda, who then promptly swallows Aya - but the inside of his stomach is gateway to a psychadelic wonderland. Based on characters created by famed superflat artist Takashi Murakami.
Amanda will be releasing yet another very limited edition figure from a line of characters, featured in her drawings.
"Amanda Visell will drop her limited-edition Never Smile at a Crocodile resin figure + matching print set for Disney's 55th Anniversary of Peter Pan celebration on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 @ 9AM. The croc figure (6.5 x 6 x 4") hand-painted by Amanda really takes advantage of the 3d medium from the eyes to the intricate teeth. Dangerous and happy too. The crocodile was sculpted by Julie B. (Pretty in Plastic). Never Smile at a Crocodile is limited to 25 sets at $350 each."
Love her arts, but love the way her arts are taking form even more. Indeed they do not come cheap but they are all quality sculpts (resin & wood). She recently released one of her characters in vinyl, with a higher number of pieces produced. Love the pink, but I shall wait a while longer until I've got a little more fund in hand.
